Writing Journey: Valuable Lessons I Learned

I've been on Wattpad for a while now, and I have learned so much more than I could ever have imagined. From the best times of reading hundreds of people devouring my stories to the worst times of wrestling with votes, Wattpad has been an adventure ride. But through all this, I've learned so many wonderful things that have helped shape me as a person and as a writer. In this post, I’m sharing what writing has taught me and how it helped me grow as an individual.

One of the greatest things about Wattpad is the community. Whether it's reading a comment about my latest chapter or getting direct messages from readers, feedback has been essential to my growth. I’ve learned that constructive criticism is a powerful tool that helps me see my stories from a new perspective. While I may not have as many followers as you are aware of other individuals having, I am still glad that some individuals out there actually take out their valuable time to DM me regarding their likes and dislikes concerning some of my work.

Writing has also taught me the value of consistency. People enjoy seeing regular updates, and I soon realized that if I wanted to establish a following, I needed to remain disciplined. It's not only about completing a story, it's about pacing and giving readers content to return for. Now, the type of content that I provide has not only assisted me in learning more about myself but also in making new friends. Again, I'll be truthful if I were doing some other type of writing and not a sapphic one I would have certainly received more encouragement but there's nothing much I can do. So, it doesn't matter now.

Writing has given me my voice. As strange as it might sound, yes it did. Writing for the audience, instead of myself, forced me to produce stories that touch people. Up to this point, I've written seven stories, some of them did better than the rest, while some are still listed on my wattpad account some got unpub'd. By testing various genres and learning what sticks, I've managed to define my style and learn what really speaks to my audience.

We all know that success doesn’t happen overnight. Building a readership takes time, in fact, building anything takes time and there will be ups and downs along the way. But what matters most is staying persistent, improving with every chapter, and knowing that the right readers will find your work.

Wattpad has really been an eye-opener for me. The lessons I have learned have molded my approach to writing, and they will keep doing so on my journey. I look forward to telling you more about what I have learned and tips and tricks on this blog. If you are a writer or a reader, I hope my experience touches you. Be sure to look out for behind-the-scenes tidbits and my life!
